Ask FastCap / Re: Could use more GPS tape colors

For the specific high-quality tape we make, we would have to custom order it which means a large quantity.

Ask FastCap / Re: Canadian distribution
« on: May 18, 2018, 03:29:52 PM »
The Canadian govít imposed an Anti-Dumping law that restricts the importing of goods made in China. Iím not sure if this applies to American made goods. I donít know all of the details except that even our Canadian dealers have stopped ordering certain products because the duties on these products are so high. The best way for an online customer to purchase our products in Canada is for them to send it via USPS to avoid large duty charges which shipping UPS would lead to. The other option is for them to order from Richelieu or Lee Valley or a company called Marathon. I know some of these companies donít sell our full line of products and that Richelieu will only sell to people if they are business owners and have an account with them. So this creates an availability problem for our customer. Iím not sure of a way around this for people who need to purchase a specific product directly from us that we cant ship in the mail. Sorry.

2p-10 can be used to bond wood and plastic with no problem. Care needs to be used with the Activator though. The Activator can cause certain plastics to discolor. 2p-10 does not need the Activator to work and in most cases where plastic is being glued, we recommend skipping the Activator.

We cannot produce Fastcaps in any other plastic materials.

If you are able to send us edge banding in a different material that is 5Ē or less wide and less than 3/4mm thick we can process the edging on our machines and turn it into caps.

Or you can purchase our Custom Color Punch Kit that has a 3/8Ē die. The tool will punch through material up to 1mm thick, and the tool kit includes our double sided speed tape to turn your material into Fastcaps.

FastCap Product Problems / Re: FastEdge tear out
« on: March 12, 2018, 12:51:56 PM »
I'm sorry this is happening, but I'm guessing youíre doing something wrong. This should not happen. First thing is you need to roll the material on more so it will not move.

Regarding the tear out, itís strictly a grain direction issue. You have to get that right and you have to trim firmly and slowly and it should work perfectly. Iíve never had it not work if itís done correctly.

Thanks for the feedback! Ė We have eliminated the tape on the 11th finger, and most of our other products currently, but if we ever end up taping again we will definitely provide tabs!

FastCap Product Problems / Re: FastCap ProCarpenter Flatback tape measure
« on: February 23, 2018, 09:10:09 AM »
The hook is most likely working as intended but I would have to see his to make sure it is not defective.

The hook will only hold on to a perfect 90 degree corner. It has to be a machined edge and not rounded over in any way. If the edge has been rounded even a little bit the hook will start to slide and slip off the edge just like he describes. Without seeing his tape measure I would say that most likely your edges have a little bit of rounding, either you took a router to them or sanded them or they have just become rounded over time. If you ran the board through a saw and had a perfectly clean cut with no rounding on the edge it should hook with no problem. If that doesnít make sense let me know and I will make a quick video and send it to you.

Lean Manufacturing / Re: Standardizing work for varied productio
« on: February 23, 2018, 08:33:57 AM »
First of all, what you need to understand is the concept of standardization is very simple. Itís been applied to everything from making hamburgers to flying planes around the world i.e. Southwest Airlines. Henry Ford understood this concept when he made the Model T. The same concept is translated into any pursuit, whether it be in the service industry or in the manufacturing industry.

The key to Lean is very simple. Most people prefer to complicate it.  Understand that everything you do in life from brushing your teeth to making your lunch to managing your health is a process. There are no exceptions to this rule. Contained in every process is an abundance of the eight different kinds of waste. Learn to see the waste in these processes. Eliminate the waste by making small improvements look for every opportunity to standardize every process reducing the variation that is typically associated with most work.

First start with yourself. Standardize your work and the things you do every day. Then you will gain a keen understanding of whatís standardization can deliver and really mean. You have enough waste for 10 lifetimes. Never look at anyone else just start improving you! Lean is no more or no less than this it's that simple.

Did you take the quad trimmer apart and trim one side at a time with the grain?

FastCap Product Review / Re: Torx drive
« on: January 25, 2018, 08:16:15 AM »
Ryan, first of all we want you to be 100% happy and we are very sorry that we wasted any of your time. Secondly, the product works great but you cannot over torque them. You will break something. Itís inherent to the design of the screw head and the torques bit. Bottom line is you need to know when to stop. That is going to require a little different technique then youíre used to. We will replace any screws you want at no charge & send you as many driver bits as you want no charge. We want you happy.  Please contact Sandi (sandi@fastcap.com).

Your comments about making a small PowerHead instead of a taper is well noted. Letís see how the taper screws do.
