Ask FastCap / Is the foam safe for collectibles?

Is the foam safe for collectibles?

Hi, I am a collector of pocket knives.  This product would be great to store and display my pocket knife collection.  What is the foam made from?  Will it in time breakdown and harm my collection? In other plastic products, some of the plastics would "gas out", especially in warmer climates, and the gas would affect the metal that the pocket knives are made from.  Some of these knives cost thousands of dollars.  Please advise if this product is safe for my knife collection.

Ask FastCap / Nylon fastcaps

Is there a chance I could order fastcaps in a nylon or uhmw plastic?
I would actually need them in 3/8 diameter.

FastCap Product Problems / Re: FastEdge tear out

I'm sorry this is happening, but I'm guessing youíre doing something wrong. This should not happen. First thing is you need to roll the material on more so it will not move.

Regarding the tear out, itís strictly a grain direction issue. You have to get that right and you have to trim firmly and slowly and it should work perfectly. Iíve never had it not work if itís done correctly.

Thanks for the feedback! Ė We have eliminated the tape on the 11th finger, and most of our other products currently, but if we ever end up taping again we will definitely provide tabs!

FastCap Product Problems / Fastcap Flatback tape measure problem
« Last post by 77RiceGuy on March 11, 2018, 04:30:28 PM »
Hi.  I have a flatback tape that has seen very modest use.  I used it last week and it would not retract when I was finished.  Upon inspection, I discovered that the center post, which anchors the spring had snapped off.  Is this a problem that others have had.  I have had many tapes through the years and this is the first one that has broken in this way.  Is it possible to get a new case and reinsert the tape?

Hi, I'm having the same problem with tear out using unfinished maple tape. I will try taking the trimmer apart and trimming one side at a time. I'm also having problems with white pvc tape creeping to one edge while trimming exposing about a 32nd inch of melamine edge while leaving a slight overhang on the other edge which I have to file .

Ask FastCap / Canadian distribution

Access to FC products is especially difficult for us in Canada.  Shipping rates from FC are punitive or worse.  Lee Valley has the glubots and that's about all.  Richelieu is good but it is a trade only outlet.

A full range user-friendly stocking distributor in Canada would be very welcome.

The hook is most likely working as intended but I would have to see his to make sure it is not defective.

The hook will only hold on to a perfect 90 degree corner. It has to be a machined edge and not rounded over in any way. If the edge has been rounded even a little bit the hook will start to slide and slip off the edge just like he describes. Without seeing his tape measure I would say that most likely your edges have a little bit of rounding, either you took a router to them or sanded them or they have just become rounded over time. If you ran the board through a saw and had a perfectly clean cut with no rounding on the edge it should hook with no problem. If that doesnít make sense let me know and I will make a quick video and send it to you.
